Okay, so I have a guilty pleasure. I LOVE the occasional off year when Chicago gets hammered by a historical snow storm. One of the best storms had to be the blizzard of 2011. During such blizzard, I was actually driving around looking for my first car (not cat, damn you XKCD) to buy.
I keep calm and cool, so I have no worries about driving in weather emergencies. It’s so strange, people in the Midwest see rain and snow every year, yet nobody ever knows what to do in it. I drive at an appropriate pace, keep my momentum, and scan the road like I’m looking for an enemy in Fallout 4.
And if you’re “unlucky” enough to get caught in a major storm, local businesses often have your back. I LOVE getting cheap/free food from restaurants just because it’s snowing hard.
Dare I say, driving in inclement weather is actually kinda fun.
But so far this year, the Midwest has been pretty mild...There’s a flood warning for Rockford, but otherwise the weekend will be pretty comfortable in Chiberia.

My wife and I went driving in that storm around the loop. Helped a couple of people get out and basically just surveyed the abandoned cars. My wife has a video of it somewhere.
I love driving in blizzards (providing I'm not stuck in traffic). Its so peaceful and serene. When we lived in Chicago I would be one of the only vehicles on the road which is always a unique situation.

Looks like the storm is going to miss us in the Northern end of the East coast. I love driving in snow.

I’ve always loved driving in the snow. Getting snow tires a few years ago was a revelation, now it’s even more fun!

Where I live it doesn’t snow. But I absolutely understand the pleasure behind it, as you explained.
Every once in a while there’s a storm over here and everyone just freaks out. I love it. Just keep calm and use what you’ve learned. Just keep an eye for grey cars with their headlights off.

Who buys a cat? In my experience they show up, you feed them, things progress, and then you get them a collar.

You know, I kinda miss a lot of heavy snow. Seems like the Midwest has been getting shafted here.
It hasn’t even been cold enough to freeze the lakes or rivers. I haven’t been out on the Trikes or Snowmobiles once this season and I’m getting a little stir crazy..

I drove home from Ann Arbor, MI after the Winter Classic in 6+” of snow, pretty much the entire way across Ohio, PA and NJ. I wouldn’t call it fun, but the car I was in was more than capable.
We saw a plow nearly get blown off of an icy bridge in Toledo, a Truck jack-knife and then get hit by another truck around Elyria, OH, a Nissan Altima (with Texas plates mind you) spin at the bottom of a grade in PA. Good times. We were steady the whole time thanks to very good tires and me having grown up in the snow of Michigan.
It took almost 16 hours to make the, typically, 9 hour trip.
When I got home, I got to drop off my stuff and take two of the three passengers to a train station so they could get home (they had flown originally, but their return flight was delayed 2 days from the storm) That’s when I got to have fun.
NJ does not drive in snow, it stays home. The streets of New Brunswick were almost entirely empty and I had 5 inches of midweight powder to play in. After the 16 hours of brain-beating madness, it was awesome to be able to blow off a little angst on familiar streets and no other drivers to worry about.
When I lived in Lowell, MA I used to take booze and food orders from my housing complex when we got the big snows. My car and i were capable to get out and back and my neighbors were willing to pay a premium to ensure their party didn’t end. Haha.

Woah...I’ve noticed that...but I haven’t like “realized” it. The lakes are having a really hard time freezing. Like right now, there would be ice fishermen all over the place, and car races on Lake Geneva. We’re close to February and the lakes are still too thin or not even frozen.

It’s a historic, hysterical, hyperbolic blizzard that will be reflected in all our historical records. :)
